Tuesday + Thursday Enrichment in Thousand Oaks

Lead by
Jessie Korb
Lead Guide

Embark on an outdoor adventure every Tuesday and Thursday with our enrichment classes specifically designed for homeschooled students aged 6-9. Join us in our one-room-classroom without walls, as we explore geography and cultural studies using living books, exploration, hands-on projects and plant knowledge.

This fall, we’re taking a queue from our Bēhere children’s love for maps and adventure and diving into studying the world around us. Starting with the basics of our planet Earth, students will traverse through 7 continents, delve into the major countries, and discover the capitals, states, and landmarks that shape our world. In the springtime, we will guide and support each child to help present and teach a different U.S. state report with a more detailed class look at the local places we call home: California, Ventura County, and the cities where we’re proud to reside.

In this engaging and dynamic environment, children will master their geographical knowledge not through rote memorization but rather through living books, fun learning experiences, all while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.

Additionally, this program will include the study of native plants and their benefits, from each region and culture explored, as we field trip to the Thousand Oaks, Gardens of the World, and take frequent naturalist walks at our home botanical garden. Children will learn to identify, understand, and appreciate the diverse flora that is integral to each area’s ecosystem and cultural heritage.

Supported by
Emilyn Allen

Emilyn Allen's passion for children ignited with the arrival of her little sister, sparking an immediate fascination with babies and kids in general. Taking on babysitting responsibilities at the age of 13, Emilyn solidified her interest in nurturing and caring for young ones. Her commitment to assisting special needs children deepened when she participated in a program at her middle school. Alongside other students, Emilyn dedicated lunch hours on Mondays and Wednesdays to engaging with these kids, playing games, sharing meals, and fostering connections. This program transitioned with her to high school, as she took the initiative to introduce it to the new environment. Outside of formal programs, Emilyn continues to babysit and actively engage with children. Looking ahead, her aspiration is to establish her own daycare and pursue a career as a teacher.
